TEXAS PRIVATE SECURITY LEVEL II (2) BASIC SECURITY OFFICER COURSE/NON-COMMISSIONED

This is a required course and is the beginning level of anyone wishing to work in the private security industry. This course is required by The Texas Department of Public Safety-Private Security Bureau to be able to issue you a “non-commissioned” (unarmed-basic security) license.

You will be required to attend two(2) hours of classroom training in accordance with the rules set forth in Chapter 1702 of the Texas Occupations Code to receive a Certificate of Training showing completion of instruction and testing, which the State needs to process your license.

What happened to Level 1 training and the on-line test? Level One (1) training has been removed and is no longer required by the Texas Department of Public Safety-Private Security Bureau, Administrative Rules as of February 1, 2010.

DPS-PSB wanted to combine and simplify the Level 1 & 2 into one area for testing and certification. Although DPS-PSB does use the number system for its licenses, we admit it is confusing to some starting off with the #2 and as such, we get asked that question every day. To increase the standards and process, and for obvious reasons, the old multiple choice, 20 minute, non-proctored exam, is no longer available online and must be given in a classroom environment by a licensed training academy with additional time and information, which we provide.

Course Information
Some other schools provide the minimum 2 hour class and a certificate which includes (15 minutes of introduction/ paperwork & then 30 minutes for the test). We know from experience that a large portion of security officers will only seek to become Level 2 trained. With that said, we feel we must provide additional training covering the basics in several areas to be more of a benefit to the officer, the employer, and the client. A 2 hour class is just not enough to prepare you for this industry and sadly, this may be the only training you receive based on what company you work for. Again, the issue is not to seek or provide the minimum, but to ensure you are properly trained and ready for the basics. Some officers will find themselves on duty right away, with lots of responsibilities, many procedures, and most times with minimum supervision or back-up around. We feel a 2 hour class just is not enough to prepare you for any shift, anywhere. After our class, you will be better prepared go to work on any shift for any security provider, thus arriving with a good solid foundation, knowledge of the business and basic procedures/laws in several areas. Security companies like our standard as they don’t have to spend their time going over the basics and can focus on client and company specific duties; they know that you have been taught right and not just handed a certificate when you come from G.P.S.G.
